A Makerspace, what is it? Why should schools create maker spaces? In this session, participants will experience hands on minds on activities and professional learning around the maker movement and how it supports 21st century learning in schools. Resources gleaned from the U.S. Department of Education; Makerspaces; ETSY; and Autodesk will be utilized and experiences from working with schools throughout Orange County will be shared.
Makerspaces can range from a STEM Focused space, to language art, history and even fashion. Focusing on STEM related activities, participants will learn how to employ learning tools such as the Raspberry Pi, Sphero, Dash N’ Dot, to online resources such as Code.org, and Scratch in a makerspace to provide opportunities for students to be engaged in hands on minds on learning.
